ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element):
Ability to do the work of a(n) ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR without more than normal supervision. You must have the ability to perform common tasks by safely operating and maneuvering one or more types of gasoline or diesel powered heavy equipment. Must have ability to grade surfaces, compact soils, or roll to exact specifications on flat or rolling terrain and steer and operate engineering equipment by using clutches, levers, brakes, and valves according to the slope or tilt. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort - Heavy physical effort is used in constantly bending, reaching, turning and moving hands, arms, feet and legs to handle different sets of controls. Considerable strain is caused by constant vibration and jerking and jolting from operation over rough surfaces. Frequently work in awkward or strained positions. At this level, operator is required to change positions of attachments more often and rapidly resulting in more tiring work. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing 50 pounds and occasionally higher. The employee must take physicals every year including depth perception, DOT exam, hearing test as required by DOT. Working Conditions - Works in all types of weather often in open driver's seat or platform on hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forests. Exposed to injury due to possible overturning of equipment and working around underground gas, steam, power and water lines. Subject to noise, vibration, dust and dirt and fumes. At this level, operator has less time to concentrate on speed and direction of vehicle as he must pay close attention to attachments, resulting in more danger of tipping or overturning vehicle when working on steep slopes. May be exposed to hazardous or flammable materials.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
